Me and Web Stuff

Like the new look?

I have a love-hate relationship with web stuff. I can't leave it alone, and I can't touch it without breaking it. I get thinking about something, then I decide that I want it, and how hard can it be? I'm clever, I can figure it out, right? So I dive in without looking. Then I spend an afternoon crying because I've fucked everything up and I can't fix it.

This blog isn't the worst.  My forums are the worst. I have broken and re-installed those forums more times than you can imagine.  I've wept over them so much that I've needed Gatorade to recover my electrolytes.

My original plan was to move my Blog over to my own webspace.  And to my credit, I managed to install Movable Type. But then I broke the archives.  Irreparably.

Enter the flash of genius:

Six Apart claim that Movable Type 3.2 is completely compatible with TypePad templates, so I wondered what would happen if I grabbed my new style sheet (the only part of my installation that wasn't broken) and flung it into my TypePad stylesheet.  Well - damned if it didn't work. A few tweaks here and there and I'm left with a very Toronto-esque blog. And though the profanity level was high, there were no tears.

For those of you not on the RSS bandwagon - there'a a new email subscription link.  So - if you want to receive an ugly orange email whenever I crap out a pearl of wisdom, click the link.
